Final Project · CIS133DA

Reclaiming the NFL from the No Fun League.

Gridiron Unfiltered is a fan-built critique of the modern NFL—how a global, billion‑dollar league has slowly turned a violent, passionate game into something that can feel corporate, over‑polished, and afraid of contact. This site looks at business decisions, rule changes, and culture shifts that helped create today’s product—and imagines how football could feel dangerous and fun again.

Sports opinion & analysis Player individuality Rule changes Global NFL

Built by Tarvies “TJ” Smith Jr. for CIS133DA – Web Design. Targeted at fans ages 16–40 who love football but hate what feels like a corporate science project on Sundays.

What this site does

Four core goals for frustrated football fans.

From roughing‑the‑passer flags to rigid uniform codes and an unforgiving salary cap, the NFL often feels like it’s protecting its image more than the soul of the sport. Each section of this site digs into a different angle.

Goal 1

Give fans a real voice.

Collect focused opinion pieces on how the league is run as a business—broadcast deals, brand protection, and league‑office decisions that filter down into how the sport looks on TV.

Goal 2

Break down “softening” rule changes.

Explain how calls like roughing the passer, helmet‑to‑helmet contact, and new kickoff experiments try to protect players but sometimes erase what makes defense fun to watch.

Goal 3

Question the salary‑cap system.

Compare the NFL’s hard cap to baseball’s big‑spend dynasties and explore whether more flexibility could keep iconic cores together longer without destroying parity.

Goal 4

Protect passion & individuality.

Show how college football’s chaos—loud crowds, wild uniforms, raw emotion—can coexist with the NFL’s global ambitions if the league lets players be more than just brand‑safe assets.

Built for a specific audience.

Gridiron Unfiltered is targeted at fans roughly 16–40—high‑school die‑hards, college students, and working adults who grew up on NFL Sundays but gravitate toward the raw energy of Saturdays.

  • Comfortable with phones, laptops, and streaming highlights.
  • Live on sports apps, Reddit threads, podcasts, and debate shows.
  • Notice when a clean sack turns into a flag because the defender “landed on” the QB.
  • Care about cleats, gloves, visors, and end‑zone celebrations as much as box scores.

The design is responsive with a minimum desktop width of 1024px and a stacked, scroll‑first layout on mobile so fans can read breakdowns, tap through sections, and share links easily.

Six sections. One message.

Every page is opinionated but structured, focusing on one part of the modern NFL machine.

  • The Game & Rules – how safety and officiating have reshaped contact.
  • Business of Football – salary cap, free agency, and global expansion.
  • Culture & Identity – uniforms, celebrations, and player expression.
  • College vs NFL – why Saturdays still feel more alive than Sundays.
  • About / Contact – the project, the creator, and how to respond.
